Differentiated projects

Quality Learning Standards

Colégio da Beloura invests in the global development of students, providing them with a variety of high-quality learning experiences as well as differentiated projects, promoting family participation.

Forest School

At Colégio da Beloura, our students benefit from Forest School approach, which aims at the holistic development of the child, providing a space for practical experimentation for children to boost their skills and abilities, such as: confidence, creativity, risk management and autonomy.

In the forest, the child learns to manage the use of tools, build shelters and explore natural spaces. In addition to all the learning acquired, principles of mutual help, respect for others and the environment, resilience and problem solving are developed. These activities also help to improve physical endurance and strengthen the immune system.

SCIENCE AND ENVIRONMENT WORKSHOPS

With the guidance of teacher, biologist and environmental educator Rute Candeias, Primary School students develop activities in the area of science and the environment, including classes, projects and field trips, always through practical methodologies and interaction with natural elements.

In the Workshops we intend to encourage habits of participation and citizenship in our students, and we search for solutions to improve quality of life both at school and in the community. We want to raise awareness and form citizens who actively contribute to a balance in the human-nature relationship.

Colégio da Beloura aims to be a space of sustainable education, assuming good practices in respect for environmental values and in the preservation of the environment.

To be Healthy – Health and well-being

Project To Be developed and launched the To Be Healthy project, aiming for its schools to be a reference in promoting health and well-being in educational communities.

With regards to School Meals, To Be Healthy aims to adopt healthier and more sustainable eating habits and practices. It is implemented in partnership with nutritionist Mariana Bessa, from Nutrir – Food and Nutrition Consultancy, and includes:

  • Varied, balanced and complete menus, with natural ingredients and essential nutrients and a daily ovolactovegetarian option;
  • Training human resources at schools (kitchen staff, for training and improving menu preparation methods, and teachers, who will continue the food education project with students);
  • Food Educational Activities with students;
  • Workshops with the families;
  • Food Waste monitoring and reduction.

To Be Healthy menus focus on offering fresh fruits and vegetables, reducing meat consumption and reducing the use of refined sugars and salt.

To Be Healthy promotes the regular physical activity and sports in everyday school life, recognising their benefits and contributing to the physical, emotional, social and cognitive development of students.

To Be Schools have numerous curricular and extracurricular activities related to physical activity and students develop projects on the topics of health education and healthy lifestyle habits. Interschool initiatives (competitions, school visits and outings) are promoted at schools and in the community, and activities are organised with the participation of families (walks, projects).

Skills Promotion Programs

In preschool, our psychologist implements a program to promote socio-emotional skills aimed at preventing and reducing behavioral and socio-emotional problems in children of this age group. This is a comprehensive program that values the acquisition of skills, as well as how they should be applied to real-life situations to facilitate their better management.

In the 4th year of primary school, our psychologist implements a skills promotion program that equips students with strategies to enable them to adapt positively and smoothly to the 2nd cycle – the transition from primary to secondary school. Moving to a new school holds significant meaning for both students and their families, and this program aims to clarify doubts, address expectations, analyze emotions, and provide relevant and concrete information about this change and its challenges.

Three awareness actions are carried out annually with students: “Awareness and Prevention – Bullying”, “Promoting Respect for My Body” and “Promoting Individuality and Diversity”.

Integrated English and Cambridge Certification

At Colégio da Beloura we believe English language acquisition is an essential resource in adapting to a globalized world. We invest in early exposure to the English language – in the stages of nursery, preschool and primary school.

With a specialized team working closely and collaboratively with the rest of the pedagogical team, our students progressively benefit from integrated English language learning: in immersive and informal contexts – naturally present in their daily routines – as well as in formal academic settings such as classes.

Building on the pedagogical project of preschool, where there is daily exposure to integrated English, we introduce the CLIL (Content and Language Integrated Learning) approach in Thematic Interdisciplinary Projects for Environmental Studies. In this approach, English language learning is facilitated because it is used as a tool for acquiring new content and skills, as a resource for learning, and not just as a subject.

Our ESL courses are based on Cambridge University curriculum, resources and certifications. We are a Cambridge University Press | Educational Partner and Cambridge Preparation Centre for English Qualifications.

As a certified Cambridge entity, the entire educational community benefits from numerous advantages that ensure an excellent context for teaching and learning the English language.

Throughout their academic life, our students are prepared for Cambridge exams, namely for Young Learners English Tests (YLE). YLE are designed for children aged 6 to 12. They are subdivided into three exams that certify different levels of English (Pre A1 Starters, A1 Movers and A2 Flyers) in listening, speaking, reading and writing skills. The exams are held at Beloura’s premises.

To be parent

Project To Be encourages a familial and affective environment in their schools, regarding parents’ participation as a central element of the educational processes, valuing openness and cooperation within the school community.

According to To Be values, informative sessions open to parents and thematic sessions of parental education will be held.

Social Impact

Our students participate in projects with effective social impact, which respect their motivation and interests, and involve them in a meaningful and memorable way in dynamic and experiential learning.

We believe that the school is an active agent of change in the community, we educate students to exercise lifelong citizenship and involve families in actions that have an effective impact.

Every two school years, Project To Be finds a common theme that results in a large project that involves all To Be educational communities.

BE BLUE PROJECT

The BE BLUE Project – For a Bluer Ocean and an always Green Planet mobilised the educational communities of To Be Schools for the cause of protecting the Ocean (see the Be Blue Documentary).

Numerous scientific-pedagogical, field and artistic activities were developed in schools and public places in the community, in partnership with personalities and entities linked to the sea.

Be Blue involved the active participation of students, educational communities and local communities across all To Be Schools.

BE KIND PROJECT

The BE KIND Project – A Bridge Between Generations sensitised the educational communities of To Be schools about the importance of intergenerationality in building a more supportive and inclusive society.

Its main purpose was to mobilise students, educational and local communities to develop initiatives that promote getting together and sharing between generations.

To Be Schools united with various entities from local communities to organise intergenerational dynamics. The grandmothers and grandfathers of the To Be families were a constant presence in schools, sharing memories, knowledge and experiences (watch the film Vila Be Kind Be Happy).
